The Life & Death of Jennie Wade

Saturday, May 4, 2024
11:00 am12:00 pm

Although several other civilians were wounded during the battle, Mary Virginia (Jennie) Wade was the only citizen of the town to be killed outright during the fighting. The tragic story of a young girl killed by a stray bullet while baking bread for the soldiers captured the imagination of early visitors to the battlefield. It is a story that continues to captivate visitors today. Join historian Timothy H. Smith as he discusses the life, death, and legacy of Jennie Wade. This is a free, public program made possible by Aero Energy.
