The Story of the Gettysburg Cyclorama: Is it History or is it Art?

Thursday, October 6, 2022
7:00 pm8:00 pm

Join Licensed Battlefield Guide and author Sue Boardman for a look at the Battle of Gettysburg Cyclorama! This program will offer an in-depth look at the cyclorama craze of the late 19th century, focusing on the Battle of Gettysburg cycloramas, their creation, decline and revival. The Gettysburg cyclorama was a spectacle to behold by a past generation that lived through the Civil War, and a modern generation who study it.

Sue Boardman, a Gettysburg Licensed Battlefield Guide since 2001, is Director Emeritus of the Gettysburg Foundation’s Leadership Program, “In the Footsteps of Leaders”. A two time winner of the Superintendent’s Award for Excellence in Guiding, Sue is a recognized expert of the Battle of Gettysburg Cyclorama as well as the National Park’s history and the history of the National Cemetery.

Sue is a native of Danville, PA and an Honors Graduate from Penn State/Geisinger Medical Center School of Nursing. A 23 year career as an Emergency Department nurse preceded her career at Gettysburg. She serves on the board of The Adams County Historical Society as well as the historic Evergreen Cemetery Association.
