A Gettysburg Romance

Thursday, September 22, 2022
7:00 pm8:00 pm

Follow Charles T. Joyce, as he delves into the story of two young people who met because of the Battle of Gettysburg, then corresponded when the armies moved away from town. They shared photos across the miles as the war progressed, then fell in love and married.
German immigrant, Jacob Friedrich Gundrum, a music teacher from Wisconsin, helped form the well-known Iron Brigade band and, with them, came to Gettysburg in July 1863. There he met Susanna “Susie” Herr, whose father had owned a tavern on a ridge west of town that now bears the family name—Herr’s Ridge.

Join Charles Joyce, as he shares their photographs and letters from his personal collection. A lawyer by profession, Joyce collects photographs of soldiers killed, wounded, and missing at the Battle of Gettysburg. He is also a senior editor of Military Images magazine.
